a long time dead

Traditional Country I started writing this in 1987 but didn't finish it till 2000 (obviously I did a few other things in that 13 years too!).

new song banditos   Alternative Country An everyday story of goodies and baddies.

new song down to the river   Alternative Country Don't necessarily have to travel east to find the road to Damascus.

drinkin' to remember   Contemporary Country This girl might have been running away, but isn't any more.

new song fast lane   Contemporary Country Inspired by a driving experience and tales of road trips to Mexico.

friendly fire   Alternative Sometimes you have to watch your friends as closely as your enemies...

georgia   Rock Nothing to do with the other Georgia, this one's a sort of Bonnie & Clyde story, just a bit shorter than the original!

hanoi   Instrumental This has an ambient / jungle / eastern feel (well, I think so anyway!).

highway blues   Contemporary Country While it's probably good for the soul to have the occasional bit of solitude, a little does go a long way!

huntingtower   Instrumental I wrote this tune for a wedding in Huntingtower castle (just outside Perth, Scotland).

i ain't drinkin'   Contemporary Country Lack of consideration for your friends can lead to a shortage of refreshment!

johnny's gone   Rock 'n' Roll Schemer bites the dust as old rival hits the road...

just one more time   Contemporary Country Sometimes relationships come to an end when nobody really wants them to...

just the way it goes   Contemporary Country This guy thought he knew where his future lay till he met an old flame.

ladies who lunch   Alternative Probably the result of too much people watching - I really do not know these characters!

nobody's fool   Contemporary Country There's a good chance that we've all at least witnessed this happening - none of us would admit to committing the offence, though!

party night   Contemporary Country Can't put my finger on it (Dusk Till Dawn, perhaps?) but party night was probably subconsciously influenced by a film. Alternatively, if someone wants to use it as the basis of a script, please do call...

player of games   Alternative I enjoy the books of Iain Banks, and the title (but nothing else!) of player of games is a nod in his direction.

playing games   Alternative This is a song about a couple who are growing apart but don't want to think the unthinkable. Yet.

private eye   Alternative Just a little observational song that kind of grew...

purple pontiac   Alternative I'm quite partial to Latin / Mexican music and this song came from mucking around with rhythms and a spanish guitar. I don't know if you could buy this sort of Pontiac in purple, but it really should have been possible...

reelin'   Rock 'n' Roll A good ol' rock 'n' roll tale of a young man who's led astray (not entirely unwillingly) by his friends.

road to louisiana   Blues Another keyboard-based song; this story's main character is not very nice at all!

russian roulette   Alternative I still think this would make a great James Bond theme but, unfortunately, the Cold War's long over.

new song saints and sinners   Alternative Country There's good and bad in everybody, so they say.

saturday night and nothing to do   Rock A short story of ghosts from the past.

say goodbye   Contemporary Country A song of post-teenage angst...

should've stayed home   Rock Driving along some back roads one morning, taking a can of petrol to a friend whose car had run out, I passed a village sign which had the spray-painted addition "welcome to hell".

new song six o'clock   Contemporary Country There must be a better reason for Fridays, but sometimes...

sinking fast   Alternative Why has she gone? Where has she gone? Is she coming back this time?

smoke and mirrors   Alternative This was the first song I wrote on the keyboard rather than guitar -
funny how using a different instrument changes things.

telephone   Rock Isn't it true that a telephone never rings when you need it to?

the dance   Alternative I was lucky enough to spend a few days in Buenos Aires a year or two ago - long enough to soak up some of the atmosphere and culture of that remarkable city.

the fountain   Instrumental Memories of a French village with lots of fountains.

the line   Contemporary Country Society's misfits aren't necessarily unhappy with their lot...

  they're still here   Contemporary Country

Sometimes relationships are so close that physical distance can't separate people

what does it mean   Folk / World The story of (and by) a man who can't believe his luck...

wrong again   Alternative Some guys do everything right, but it's still not quite enough...
