| Can't
put my finger on it (Dusk Till Dawn, perhaps?) but party night
was probably subconsciously influenced by a film. Alternatively,
if someone wants to use it as the basis of a script, please do
call...

Friday
night was party night down at Dave’s cafe;
everybody in town was there; well most I’d say,
with their Mercs and their TVRs parked out in the street:
hundred-thousand pound substitutes, but they looked real neat;
and everybody was laughing as they drank
all night;
everybody had a real good time; was a lovely sight;
then round about three AM Johnny started a fight,
just for the hell of it; ‘cause it felt so right.
All the old folks and the minister stood up at the bar,
drinking shorts with lemonade from the pickle jar;
and the ladies in their finery hung around the stairs,
hoping for a glimpse of Dave’s French au pair;
and everybody was laughing as they drank
all night;
everybody had a real good time; was a lovely sight;
then round about three AM Johnny started a fight,
just for the hell of it; ‘cause it felt so right.
Business men and their concubines sat around all night,
with their faces in shadow and their hands in the light;
and the policemen and the magistrate stood beside the door;
taking pictures with their cameras while staring at the floor;
and everybody was laughing as they drank
all night;
everybody had a real good time; was a lovely sight;
then round about three AM Johnny started a fight,
just for the hell of it; ‘cause it felt so right.
