Walkin’
along on the road to Louisiana; walkin’ along with no plan;
I’d left my car in Georgetown, Carolina; didn’t have
nouse for it no more,
but I’d bought me a gun on the road to Louisiana; bought
me a gun ‘cause I could;
so I’m walkin’ along with no purpose in mind; just
walkin’ south down the road.
Walked through Alabama on my way to Louisiana, paid my respects
in Birmingham;
hitched myself a ride through Jackson, Mississippi in the back
seat of a limousine,
but I still had my gun on the road to Louisiana; carried my gun
all the way,
and I crossed the line near to Vicksburg town, headed for Baton
Rouge.
I met a girl on the road to Louisiana; told me her name was Annabel;
she knew her way round the bars and motels; lord only knows where
she’d been;
but I still had my gun on the road to Louisiana; carried my gun
next my heart
as I counted the miles on the signposts we passed, counted the
miles still to go.
Early one morning we walked into town; walked into old Baton Rouge;
I checked the address and headed up town; lookin’ to find
my old friend;
and I pulled out my gun and I blew her away; tore a big hole in
her heart;
and I’m walkin’ along on the road from Louisiana;
walkin’ along with my gun.
